February 06, 2016 – LANCASTER, Ontario – A firefighter with South Glengarry Fire Services was seriously injured this morning while responding to a single-vehicle accident in the westbound lane of Highway 401 Saturday morning.
The firefighter was the only occupant of a fire truck tanker that rolled over as a result of the poor weather conditions.
That was the news alerted us to the fact that Randy Robertson, one of our “Volunteer” firefighters from the Lancaster Fire Station had been seriously injured in responding to a call. Randy, named Fire Fighter of the Year for 2015. That prompted his brother fire fighters to rally and hold a fundraiser held at the Lancaster Legion.
The firefighters took over the kitchen to serve a spaghetti dinner to well over 400 attendees supporting Randy’s recovery… that may be a record breaking attendance for an event at our branch… a good indicator of what the building extension will do for the branch.
